KIBAALE RECORDS AN INCREASE IN HIV SPREAD

Kibaale District AIDS Committee (DAC) has ranked Kabasekende, Mugarama, Nyamarunda Sub Counties and Nyamarunda Town Council for having a high prevalence rate that stands at 5.0% compared to other Sub Counties.

This was revealed by Doreen Birungi the district AIDS focal person during the extended District AIDS Committee (DAC) meeting that was attended by officials from Uganda AIDS Commission. Birungi says in a group of 100 people in the above mentioned Sub Counties, 5 of them are HIV positive due to increased teenagers working in bars, inadequate health facilities, low rate of condom usage among others.

During her presentation, Birungi gave the trend of persons testing HIV positive from July to September 2022 and April to June 2023 indicates that there has been an increase of new HIV infections in the district. In July to September 2022, 184 were tested positive, October to December 2022, 124 were tested positive, January to March 2023, 201 were tested positive and in April to June 2023, 237 were positive. Birungi says currently the district has 4,560 people enrolled on ART with 3.0% prevalence rate.

Enid Wamani the Director Uganda AIDS Partisanship says the are in Kibaale district to work together with the district and other Non-governmental organization to find better ways and sensitization of the people on the privation of HIV AIDS in the district.

In his speech Godwin Angalia Kasigwa the Resident District Commissioner Kibaale, applauded the government through the AIDS organizations for fighting AIDS in the country however emphasized on the issue of mind changes more especially among the youth calling upon the parents and the community work together in fighting HIV AIDS with in the district and the country at large.
