Kyanyi Solar Powered Mini Piped Water Scheme Commissioned Amidst Excitement from Locals in Kibaale
Residents from 4 villages of Kyanyi Central, Kyanyi B, Makukuuru and Kabarila in Nyamarunda Sub County Kibaale district are excited following the commissioning of Kyanyi solar powered mini piped water scheme. The construction of solar powered mini piped water scheme at Kyanyi was contracted by GAT consults LTD at a tune of 457 million shillings funded by African Development Fund and Government of Uganda. Excited locals reveal that they have been drinking dirty water and fetching from far distances but they are very delighted following the construction of Kyanyi piped water system calling for more extension at each household however, hailed Minister Matia Kasaija for the continuous lobbying. Ben Sekuye the District Water Officer says Kyanyi scheme has been implemented by the Ministry of Water with water tank reservoir of 32,000liter, 3 public stand posts with 5 yard taps and that the project will serve 875 households consisting of over 5000 beneficiaries. While commissioning the project at Kyanyi primary school premises, Noeline Kisembo Basemera the Woman MP Kibaale congratulates locals for receiving clean and safe water urging them to utilize the given clean water effectively to have health life as well as using the water in income generating activities like rearing pigs, cows, sheep, poultry among others. In his remarks, Godwin Angalia Kasigwa the RDC Kibaale says water originates from wetlands and forests appealing to residents to stop encroaching in wetlands and forest reserves so as to have enough water coverage. After commissioning, MP Basemera handed over the project to officials from Mid-Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation for maintenance led by Robert Nsabimana the Senior Engineer who pledged for more extensions and private connection, regular testing of the quality of the water and that a unit of water will cost 2990 shillings. The function was graced by different dignitaries including, Fred Matovu the NRM chairperson Kibaale, Andrew Byaruhanga Semakula who represented Dr Emely Kugonza the MP for Buyanja East, Peter Lugumba the district speaker, district councilors among others.
